What are cookies, how do they work and what can they be used for?
Simply put, cookies are information stored on your computer (and saved by the web pages you visit).
Cookies typically contain some of your settings (Internet browser settings, such as preferred language or address). Later, when you open the same web page again, your Internet browser sends back the cookies that belong to that page. In this way, the website is able to process, and display, information tailored to your needs and habits.
Cookies can store a wide range of information, including personal information (such as your name or e-mail address). Still, such information can only be saved if you enable it – web pages cannot access the information you have not given them and are unable to access other files on your computer.
On reliable sites, cookies can enrich your experience by remembering your wants and needs and enabling you to skip the registration every time you visit a website. However, some cookies, such as those saved by banner ads, might put your privacy at risk by tracking sites you visit.
Default activity for storing and sending cookies is not directly visible. However, you can change your Internet browser settings by choosing whether to approve or reject individual requests to store cookies. You can also activate the automatic deletion of all cookies when you close your Internet browser.
The decision as to which information will be stored (and how) is in your hands.
Types of Cookies

They are removed from the computer after you close your Internet browser. Websites use them to store temporary information, such as items in a shopping cart.

Permanent cookies can remain stored on your computer for days, months, and even years.
